Travel to Edinburgh

As soon as your place at the Caledonian Language School is confirmed, you will receive a booklet with information about different ways of travelling to Edinburgh, and about Edinburgh Airport. As well as giving details of how to fly to Edinburgh, the booklet will tell you about ferries and other links between the UK and Europe.

You will also find information about how to go from the airport to Edinburgh city centre (the airport bus - £3.50) or by taxi to your accommodation (usually £15 - £22). The airport is about 20 minutes by car from Edinburgh city centre. If you prefer the security of being picked up, we can arrange a local taxi service to meet you at the Arrivals gate and take you to your accommodation. This will cost £50.

Later, if you want to visit other parts of the UK, the train to London takes about 4-5 hours, or you can reach Inverness in about 3 hours. It’s usually a good idea to hire a car with friends and visit the Highlands for a weekend or a longer break, if you have time.

If you book in advance, it’s possible to travel very cheaply by bus or train to other parts of Scotland or the UK – try

Location

The city-centre location is a great advantage for making the most of Edinburgh as a learning and living environment. The school is at 7 Torphichen Street, just 200 metres from Haymarket Station, and 10 minutes walk from Princes Street. Torphichen Street is just off a busy area with lots of shops, restaurants, snack bars, cafes, pubs, and within walking distance of a gym and swimming pool.

The location is also ideal for access to public transport, with numerous bus routes passing the end of the Torphichen Street.

Students who are planning to work part-time will be well-placed for job-seeking at city-centre hotels, restaurants and shops, or for travelling to and from work when they find it. This can especially suit students doing agency work at functions at the big hotels or the exhibition centre, which is also 5 minutes away.
