Before starting a new experience abroad, it is normal to have many questions about everyday life in the UK – food, traditions, culture, etc… Listening to real-life experiences can be very helpful.

In the next few months we’ll be posting interviews with some of our students – These will give you useful insights about your experience in Edinburgh, studying at the Caledonian Language School.

Mahmood – one of our students from Oman, shared his experience with us. He has studied here for 7 weeks.

Q: What was your first impression of the city?

Mahmood highlighted that people in Edinburgh are very nice and the city is full of history, green areas and wonderful landscapes.

Q: When you arrived here, what were your thoughts and concerns?

Q: What advice would you give to Omani students going to stay with a family?

Respect is the key word for Mahmood in terms of living with a host family.

Mahmood also suggested that students should plan in advance their journeys and know where they’re going when using public transports, such as buses and trains. He added: “Some challenges, but you’ll overcome them!”

Q: How would you describe the school to someone thinking about studying here?

Mahmood’s best memories are not only his lessons and time spent with his new friends in class, but also trips and excursions around Scotland, especially his trip to the Highlands.

Thank you, Mahmood, and we hope to see you again soon!
