British Council

The British Council is a UK organisation which specialises in building international relationships between people from the UK and other countries. The British Council regularly inspects members who offer courses in English as a foreign language and protects the interests of students from other countries studying in the UK. The British Council inspected and accredited the Caledonian Language School in summer 2013.

Scottish Qualifications Authority

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is a Scottish government body. It is responsible for the development, accreditation, assessment and certification of qualifications, apart from university degrees, in Scotland. SQA Accreditation also monitors the work of approved centres. The Caledonian Language School received approval from the Scottish Qualifications Authority as an assessment centre for SQA certificates in ESOL in June 2011.

The Caledonian Language School has been a member of English UK since 2013. Membership of English UK is a badge of quality: all members must pass one of the world’s most rigorous inspection schemes, Accreditation UK, which is managed jointly with the British Council.

ILA Scotland

The Individual Learning Account (ILA) scheme is managed by Learndirect Scotland and the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS). ILA funding provides £200 to support adult education for residents in Scotland to take courses which will help their personal or career development. For foreign speakers of English resident in Scotland, this includes English courses. The Caledonian Language School has been an official ILA approved learning provider since January 2014.

The Caledonian Language School has been a member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce since September 2011 and has also been a Cambridge Exam Preparation Centre since early 2012.
